The Magnificent Five

.
1) Why do you make art?

"I make art!?"
"Then what the hell do you think you're making?"
"Shut up, I'm trying to think."
. but seriously.

I don't quite consider myself as creating "art". But either way,

It's like...why do you listen to music?
...or why are you staring at the ceiling doing nothing and wasting your time while that homework on your desk is no longer fresh to digest?

answer: (remember claaass, there is no "wrong" answer!!)

. Because I want to.

Disappointed?

I'm just having fun.
I'm not going to take apart and examine the anatomy of my pleasure.

warning: spoilers
I actually use my brain when writing.
It feels like a puzzle, looking for le mot parfait.
I can express my feelings or thoughts stronger in poetry, than if I just jotted them down in my diary.
I never use words I don't know, but using words you know in different contexts works like a drug. You're constantly pressing your expressive boundaries.
You can talk about love without sounding like an ass.
Editing. It's like taking a shower. Slowly chiselling away to reveal.
I don't really care to win the lottery, but if someone hands me the money, I wouldn't decline. You know what I mean?

2) What piece in your gallery do you feel is most underrated?

Ooooh. All of them? Actually, my ego was built by nanotechnology, so I haven't had any mental breakdowns concerning underratings. I've also been blessed to have honest writer's tell me when something is out of place and when something just became a roadkill victim. I wouldn't want it any other way. When something had poor ratings, it probably deserved it. Whether you feel something of mine is underrated or not is up to you, the reader, to rate.

That said, Little Village Tale is something I struggled with, so a little more input may be nice. But only if you want to.

3) How did you find deviantART?

~metalheart

4) Who do you feel is underrated here on DA?

Basically the whole writing section of deviantart would benefit from a lot more attention, but there's a catch to that. Most writer's (I included) would want a valid comment. You can quite clearly see when the person is praising a piece without the slightest understanding of it. If people willing to work their minds and (not just read but) examine the poetry and prose that are out there, I feel the underrated will get their proper due.

side note (esp but not exclusive to visual artists):
If the lack of appealing poems is the cause of your indifference, then starting with the Poetry Features or Daily Devs and working through their connections is a good way to start. Show some support.

5) Any words of wisdom for your fellow deviants?

Basically, create with an open mind,
. critique with an open mind,
. and embrace that with an open mind.

.
1) Why do you make art?

It's always refreshing to create something. I started writing poetry at a young age through school assignments and figured I needed a hobby. I've continued in hopes of writing a masterpiece.

2) What piece in your gallery do you feel is most underrated?

A one act play I wrote awhile back called State-a play in one act, I was really proud of it because I hadn't finished a one act in awhile. But it's hard for prose to get views, so I never got much feedback here, which I wanted. But at least I got an A for it in a class.

3) How did you find deviantART?

Through friends in my hometown who had photography galleries on here. They told me about the writing here, and so I checked it out.

4) Who do you feel is underrated here on DA?

Writers as a whole. Especially prose writers. Did you want me to start rattling off names? There are so many good writers on here it's hard to find them among the masses.

5) Any words of wisdom for your fellow deviants?

Have fun with your writing, or art, or whatever it is you do. If you don't have fun it's not worth it. Try out new things all the time. Oh, and don't be scared of the Writer's Workshop, there's cool people in there, I swear.

.
1)Why do you make art?

eye do what the voices tell me to do, because they say that it will make my life easier...

2) What piece in your gallery do you feel is most underrated?

transcendent

3) How did you find deviantART?

a couple of friends that eye was working with, ~laurel and ~ coconutfetus

4) Who do you feel is underrated here on DA?

my friend melissa, or as you would know her… ~ryuoki

5) Any words of wisdom for your fellow deviants?

follow the voices in your head and your heart, otherwise known as reason and desire, for they will lead you to true happiness...

.
1) Why do you make art?

I suppose it's because it's the only way to express myself without getting arrested or jailed.

2) What piece in your gallery do you feel is most underrated?

I'd have to say it's The Last Walk With Destiny. That particular piece means a lot to me and few people understood it. Or at least few people decided to tell me they understood it...yeah, that sounds good.

3) How did you find deviantART?

A friend showed me while we were looking for good wallpapers. I stuck with one for like a year by the way. I'm not sure who's it was though. But thanks to all you wallpaperers for leading me here!

4) Who do you feel is underrated here on DA?

Underrated...underrated. Hm. Probably all of the admins as well as some friends of mine.

5) Any words of wisdom for your fellow deviants?

Don't worry about comments or pageviews. Just worry about yourself but not in a selfish kind of way.

Geez, those are some bad words of wisdom.

.
1)Why do you make art?

Simply because I love it. Still not convinced that I make good art, but I do get much satisfaction doing it and in so doing pursuing tha he-art.

2) What piece in your gallery do you feel is most underrated?

I don't really look at the response on my work in that sense. I'm quite happy with what I get. It has to do with one of my convictions not to mix passion with any form of competition. Besides sometimes I get these comments that really give a twist to a piece I wrote and which I hadn't seen myself. That's really one of the kicks I get.

3) How did you find deviantART?

I was about to purchase a poetry book from [link] after having received that ego-stroking letter of them, which for some time really made me think that I was the end of the world. But thanks to my innate paranoia I did a little survey on them and was motioned to a certain ^inennui in some forum on DA. I quickly forgot about [link] since I couldn't find a damn thing about them in the forum post anyway, and the rest was the enchanting magic of DA. I felt like a prodigal son coming into this house of artists, getting a room, that can infinitely be stuffed, without having to pay the rent and all that.

4) Who do you feel is underrated here on DA?

Underrated is a strong word. I do in a way participate in Project Overlooked which I think is more apt. Rates are relative and therefore irrelevant. Yet I understand that all the little statistics on one's page and works do tingle the synapses. But if you need directions to people who really are a treat to read or look at, I'd say ~timothyd, ~ danstijl12, *kaujot, ~bluvirgo and ~throw-a-bomb ... to name a few. I could easily fill a page here with names, but these came straight up as I wondered why they have relatively a number short of pageviews or comments in relation to the overall standard of their works.

5) Any words of wisdom for your fellow deviants?

Okay in short: Don't let the numbers numb you, that's why they are really called numbers; designed to conceal and steal and hardly ever to reveal.
Art is 99.99% feeling and if you get that you will easily get over the average of 156.39% poverty that generally accompanies it, one way or another.
Two other things; 1. attain and maintain a healthy level of arrogance. 2. change opinions whenever you feel like or have to.

ps. do please check with named deviants in "underrated" whether they find it cool to be named in that setting.
Thanks,

Brouwn
